ADVICS Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Kariya City, Aichi Pref., President: Dr. Haruhiko Saito) has jointly developed the world’s first Crawl Control with the Toyota Motor Corporation, for Toyota Land Cruiser released on September 18, 2007, realizing drastic improvement in safety and convenience of off-road driving.
‘Crawl Control’ that has been newly developed is a system that supports the driver’s driving control on road surfaces that require delicate speed control, such as sandy area, dirt, rocky roads, snow - covered roads and steep slopes.
Crawl Control automates the acceleration and braking operation by ideally controlling the engine and brake to minimize the wheel skidding as much as possible. With this, the driver can concentrate on the steering wheel operation and enjoy easy driving and at the same time secure safety. Also, the speed selector switch enables selection of the optimum car speed for the road surface (1 to 5 km/h) from 3 levels, offering smooth running over any kind of road surface.
This technology has been realized by adding a newly developed software to the ESC system that utilizes Hydraulic Booster “HB-Ci”* with high brake efficiency and high control response features. In conventional ESC systems, acceleration slowdown control had been done according to the vehicle condition, at the same time as brake control. For this crawl control, an acceleration opening control has been newly adopted to closely integrate the acceleration and brake control. This has made it possible to keep the speed constant at micro low velocity even when riding on rugged terrain.
